You may be thinking green as in green backs the good old dollar bill even though “being green” is looking like it will take a huge dip into our pockets.
The government is on a mission to help reduces pollutants in our nation and thought the world. The term “Cap and Trade” will allocate a points system that the energy generation industry must abide by. Even though nothing that comes from the government is simply put, I am going to use it here. Simply put, the points will correspond to how much pollution these energy plants produce, so more pollution more points. These points will be taxed by the federal government. This tax on the energy industry will produce billions of dollars for the government. You may think this is a great idea right? Will maybe, but if you think the energy industry will take the hit you are horribly wrong. These billions of dollars will be paid by us the people. Whether the energy industry speeds up the development and research and design in alternative energy would be anyone’s guess. Because, building new devices, equipment, and infrastructure for alternative energy is even more expensive and if the government will not subsidize it who do you think will foot the bill? Yes, the people like you and me will pay for this too. Is there a better idea, I am sure of it.
