Everyone has a software applications suite that you use in your daily life whether it is personal or for business.

I have found a very comprehensive suite of applications that are truly 100% free no strings attached. Most of these applications will run on various platforms such as Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Productivity Suite

For those of you that have been using Microsoft Office Professional with Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access you will find the Open Office suite www.openoffice.org sponsored by Sun Microsystems to be very comparable with Write, Calc, Impress, Base, and Math. Runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Email

For email there are many online solutions but if you work at a corporation or have your own email address from various web sites you probably want to be using an email application to centralize your email. Many use Outlook Express which is the free limited version of Outlook Professional. Well here to there is a very powerful email application called Thunderbird. Runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Image viewer

Looking for a powerful image view instead of the weak windows one. Check out www.IrfanView.com not only does this view nearly every image format around but it also will perform image manipulation one-by-one or in batch mode. IrfanView will perform image resize, crop, rotation, losses jpg transformations and many more. Runs on Windows.

Image editor

Wishing there was a free alternative to the very expensive Adobe Photoshop. If you have ever used Photoshop before you will know you can't live without it. Actually you can if you get www.GIMP.org. GIMP is a very powerful image editor that has layering, filters, and many other tools. Runs on Windows and Linux.

FTP Client

For those of you that have virtual web hosts and need to transfer files back and forth from the internet to you personal computer there is a very useful free ftp client called FileZilla. Runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Code Editor

Are you looking for a simple but rich code editor? Try out Notepad++. Runs on Windows.
Eclipse www.Eclipse.org is a powerful code editor which supports many languages and has many plugins. Runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

The 5 Pledges

1. I believe in a balanced budget and therefor will vote for a freeze in government spending until that goal is realized.
